Day 6: 12 -October

Western Media


 Hamas fighters are no longer in towns and cities around Gaza. Gaza is still being bombed. Still, whole families are being wiped out. Hospitals are overwhelmed with the number of dead and injured. Israelis are still killed and injured by rockets falling in their towns and cities around Gaza.

Two airports in Damascus and Helapo were bombed as well. US military support continues to be flown to the region.

Diplomacy: A press conference is held between Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel and US Secretary of State Blinken. Similarly, the Iranian Prime Minister lands in Beirut and holds meetings. Much diplomatic activity is taking place.

Western Media: Western media tactics and strategies are becoming a cliché for Arab listeners. 9/11- ISIS- holocaust. This symphony is played too many times. I wonder if people in the West still believe in their media. Do people in the West and worldwide realize the extent of falsification that is happening?  It is expected to adhere to a particular media agenda during times of war, but to engage in the process of dehumanization and falsification on a large scale is very battering to hear. Western media, by adhering to a single, unified version of the narrative, undermines the values of its civilization, and this ultimately contributes to the slow crumbling and disintegration of what holds any civilization strong and alive: its moral compass.

Even though the assault on Gaza is such an obvious and openly displayed horror, the level of silence and the seeming paralysis to act can be understood as terrifying and puzzling unless the role of religion is examined and understood along with the political and economic interests. The role of religion is rarely discussed openly because faith cannot be nudged in any direction. Its believers do not compromise; astonishingly, the leaders of the three religions in the region ask for hardship as a necessary ingredient for salvation.   Gaza Has Fragmented Me Pile of Emotions: Part two I am sharing my soul’s pain about Gaza. I wish I had a more hopeful piece of writing to share on New Year’s Eve. But this is what I found reverberating in my heart. I wish for whoever is safe and has food and water to feel a sense of bliss. The Bliss of Being Alive: I express gratitude for my family's safety every night, Al-Hamdulillah. Bliss is present in every second we are alive, and every inhale free from the burns of war and residues of bombs. This is the gift of Gaza, the gift of bloody conflicts for all humans. I wonder whether I can protect my sons from adversity, from the trauma of wars. I guess no one, anywhere, can protect their kids from trauma and death. The idea brings solace to me somehow.
